Del Mar Village Small Business Spotlight:

Interview With: Wisdom Properties

Tell us your backstory: What was your path to owning a business in Del Mar Village? Did you grow up here? Why did you choose Del Mar Village to set up shop?

I've always loved living and working in Del Mar and moved here after being born & raised in La Jolla. I was drawn to the village atmosphere and the European architecture of the ionic Stratford building. To me, Del Mar has always been the ideal beach town with a casual yet sophisticated culture. As a Realtor for over 40 years I've worked at or owned ten different Del Mar offices including our first independent Dyson & Dyson office on Jimmy Durante 34 years ago. As a resident I've lived at eight different Del Mar properties including a fun year at the Chateau L'Auberge condos while remodeling our home. So for me and my husband Bob, coming back to the same CAMINO DEL MAR office location as a new brand, WISDOM Properties is a dream come true! Del Mar Village has the best exposure to visitors and locals alike. Everyone wants to come here to get some sun, wine and dine and shop the stores!

Tell us about your business. What should people know about it? What makes it unique?

People should know that we opened our office in the heart of the village with the goal of becoming a community resource for locals and visitors alike. To that end, we installed a one-of-a-kind "Wisdom Wonder Wall' that spans over 10 feet wide and presents stunning Del Mar aerial video photography of the coastline, surf, mesas, canyons, hiking trails, homes, school, shops, and information presented on a scale never seen before. It is a joy to share Del Mar in our hybrid office/residential setting! Our Wonder Wall, will allow us to expand relationships by hosting special event movie nights, ball games and children's visual hours. Real Estate sales goes far deeper that selling a home.... we love this area and it is a true joy to promote it!

What is one product or service you are most known for or is particularly special to you?

If a real estate firm could have a product, I'd say it's our extraordinary real estate advisors who absolutely love helping their clients make the best real estate decisions and help each other by sharing their wisdom!

Tell us one fun fact about your business most people don't know.

A fun fact about WISDOM PROPERTIES is that our logo loosely symbolizes an OWL with wings outstretched. Our annual awards are called the OWL Awards (Our Wisdom Leaders) and on more than one occasion we've had a magnificent live North American Great Horned Owl at our awards event. Another fun fact about WISDOM PROPERTIES is that this is the THIRD time I've been in this 1312 Camino Del Mar building. I was a realtor here when it was first built in the 1980s, and later when Dyson & Dyson took over the lease. At one point, we even had an office next door, where Bing is now! Now, this is the third time we're here as WISDOM PROPERTIES, a boutique real estate firm built on the legacy of Dyson & Dyson. Several of our agents were with us in this building a couple decades ago so everyone feels like they are coming home!

What do you love about Del Mar Village?

First off, I love the topography..... on the hill, with every curve of the road, there is a completely different setting, private little canyons, mesas with views, monument looking sandstone, beautiful trees, hard to find little nooks and crannies and the always overwhelming power of a blue ocean from cliffs, parks and sand. It is a town of individualism, of personal expression and I love the value that is placed on protecting that uniqueness. I will never tire of driving through the village and appreciating the diverse and charming look of the streets and buildings. I'm a visual person and Del Mar offers a smorgasbord of sights and lights!

How would you spend the perfect day in Del Mar? Where would you go? What would you eat or do?

My perfect day in Del Mar would be grabbing a Moroccan Spice Iced Coffee at BETTER BUZZ, then heading to the beach for a long walk on the sand with my husband down to DOG BEACH to watch all the dogs at play. I'd love to follow that with a "Soothing Seascape" Massage at the L'AUBERGE SPA , then meet friends at the Plaza to try out THE COTTAGE for Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. I'd probably do a little banking at CHASE and then head over to WISDOM PROPERTIES to check in on my incredible tribe of real estate advisors. I'd have to pass on my 30 year favorite California Delight from BOARD & BREW, maybe next time! I'd 'slow drive' around the streets of Del Mar appreciating the variety of architecture, landscaping, waving to friends and end up at the gates of LA ATALAYA, and think about the rich history this little town has. For dinner we'd be enjoying the village vibe of the sidewalk tables at SEASIDE GRILLE and order a Chicken Kabob Wrap.
