How it Works

The Del Mar ShoreSaver Program is a pioneering environmental initiative sponsored by the DMVA, in partnership with the City of Del Mar, EDCO, and Relic Coastal Collaborative, designed to enhance Del Mar's beaches' cleanliness and ecological health.

Through the strategic placement of mobile docking stations equipped with reusable baskets, the program encourages community and visitor beachgoers to actively participate in trash collection actively, turning leisurely beach visits into opportunities for environmental stewardship. Launched in April 2024 as a pilot program with a single docking station, the program aimed to gather feedback for expansion, fostering a culture of sustainability and community involvement in preserving the natural beauty of our coastal areas. The program has expanded to three total stations:

  • 17th Street lifeguard station (original pilot location)

  • 20th Street lifeguard station

  • 25th Street beach access
